Speed up or reform? The Green Deal at a crossroads

9/9/2025

The European Union is currently debating the future of the European Green Deal. The future of the Green Deal will also be discussed at this year’s ENERGOFÓRUM®
conference. What to expect?

Ivan Lovíšek will guide conference participants through the issue of climate initiatives in both the global and European contexts. In a lecture preceding the discussion panel, the expert from OKTE will assess the progress achieved in relation to the objectives set in the 2015 Paris Agreement. He portrays pro-climate measures as a global, pro-growth economic program whose aim is to comprehensively reshape the world economy to rid it of its dependence on fossil fuels.

In his lecture, Ivan Lovíšek will also point to the asymmetric nature of anthropogenic climate change: “Those who benefited most in the past from the production of greenhouse gases are not the ones who currently bear the greatest impacts of global warming,” the expert emphasizes.
“Minor emitters struggling with low levels of GDP generation disproportionately feel the physical impacts of climate change and are expected to bear very significant economic impacts for its global mitigation,” says OKTE’s Manager for Economics and Finance.

The pro-climate enthusiasm of early 2021 has been replaced by skepticism caused by uncertainty in the sector. In his presentation, the author examines how compatible the Green Deal is with the current economic doctrine. “The Green Deal was thrown into the EU’s market environment. The market by itself, however, does not have sufficient capacity to create motivation for pro-climate activity,” says Ivan Lovíšek, reflecting on the conditions under which climate measures such as the Green Deal have a chance to help move closer to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.

Ivan Lovíšek’s lecture will lead into a panel discussion. The following speakers will share their views:

  • Peter Baláž – Business Development Director, HUAWEI
  • Jaroslav Kubinec – Executive Director of the Market Operations Division, SEPS
  • Matej Krušpán – Chief Commercial Officer, REZOLV ENERGY
